There are three envelopes of material. Envelope one contains: a copy of an extract from the Grazier's Review and record, dated March 18 1964; and, reminiscences of H P Somerset (87 pages). Envelope two contains: two letters to David McConnel relating to the publication of a book by H P Somerset enclosing a list of corrections; two sea-songs written on board the 'Polmaise', in 1871, and a newspaper cutting showing H P Somerset at the Toogoolawah Show; and, inventory of furniture in the Oxley Memorial Library. Envelope three contains an autobiography of H P Somerset, '"Trombone's Troubles" - experiences of a Queensland Jackaroo in early pastoral days by H P Somerset.

Born in South Africa, Henry Somerset spent his early childhood in India. He was educated at Wellington College, and emigrated to Queensland in 1871.
